Why doesn't my laptop power on or doesn't show its charging

I connect my ac adapter to my compaq nd it doesn't show no light that says it's charging so I don't know if is charging it doesn't power up neither

Options

Using a multimeter check the power out of your adapter it should read about 18.5 VDC. If not then you need a new adapter.

You might try putting a thin, soft bristle brush in the power port of the notebook to clean debris (dust, lint, pet hair, etc.) out of the port.

For the connector on the adapter, a clean cloth wet with rubbing alcohol to remove any film or residue can help freshen the contact.
