How do I repair loose charging port?

Due to the power lead being inadvertently pulled on my Lenovo G580, I think it may have damaged the charging port because there seems to be no feed to the battery now, even with a brand new lead.

depending on which side of the laptop the USB is on will determine how hard they are to replace. the right side ports are independent of the motherboard but the left side are soldered to the board so if its a left side port you will need to solder in a new one but if its on the right you can buy and replace the unit . Here is a teardown video to help with disassembly

Hope this helps

Hi Jim,

Thanks for your reply. The charging port takes a single jack plug, not a USB, and is located on the right-hand side of the laptop nearest the front. Does this alter your diagnosis?

sorry I should have said charge port but yes the diagnosis is the same if its on the upper right corner of the laptop it is a wired connection but if its on the left side it will probably be soldered to the motherboard . If you watch the video you will see him disconnect the power to the board at around 9:56 of the video

Thanks again, Jim. I'll see what I can do after watching the video.

Hi Derek,

Here is a link to the service manual which may be of some help, especially the parts list if necessary. https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mob...
