I installed a 2TB hard drive and the computer won't recognize it

I removed a 250GB Western Digital Hard drive with a S/N: WCARY0742176 and I installed a 2TB Toshiba with a S/N of 85EMGN4HS TZ5 and when I powered up my computer I am getting a white screen with a flashing folder with a question mark in it? Does anyone know why? I tried holding the option key to get the utilities to pop up but it is not working either

The question mark is telling you the drive is blank.

You'll need to reconnect your old drive back up to your system using this: Universal Drive Adapter

Then using your old drive running your system again open up Disk Utility to prep your new HD. Create a GUID partition and format the partition. Now th next task is to download from the App Store the OS-X installer for your system (if you don't already have it). Make a copy of it and then run it to install the OS on to your new drive. Once done it will ask if you want to migrate your stuff over this is where you can rebuild the new drive to be exactly like your old drive.
