Controller won't work in game

My ps4 controller works perfectly at the playstation homescreen, but when I go to play a game it doesn't work all of the buttons stop working but then I can go back to the homescreen and it works fine. It does this on all my games. I tried resetting it but it didn't work.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Exactly! I tried playing Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach (Spoilers), and everytime I tried to get in Freddy's chest cavity, or get in a hiding spot, it wouldn't work. For some reason, X is the button where you do most stuff, like interact, or hide or something like that, but it ONLY didn't work on hiding spots lol.

i think its a button issue.. try opening your controller.. provided u dont care about warranty and dont have the money for another....

Items needed:

Qtips

Rubbing alcohol

Small Phillips Screw Driver

Small towel

.............................................

open up controller with screw driver..

put small amount of rubbing alcohol on Q-Tip... find gel pads that have metal area where button is pressed down.. clean that area.. with q tip.. wipe with towel..

repeat this process with every single button... including R2 R1 L2 L1 buttons... Square Triangle X and Circle... Up Down Left Right D-PAd buttons as well... and there you go.. should be fixed... some users have reported issues with controller not working in game, but works fine on XMB menu.... this is due to a button being jammed/broke/or dirty and constantly sending a button pressed signal Rapidly... disabling any button you press from being read!

Jagged, do everyone a favor and keep your self-indulgent advice to yourself. Did you even read the question? Because for anyone to come to the conclusion that it's a button issue is devoid of any intelligence whatsoever. The basic information is that a buttons work, but the apps running do not recognize the controls. Based on this, you would have people disassembling their controllers? Do you get off somehow showing off some knowledge about the innards of the device? All others, please disregard this advice and do not start taking apart your controller. The most basic analysis, for anyone with a 90 IQ or above, is that this is a software issue.

Unfortunately Ben, this actually worked.

Thanks Jagged.

But the buttons works perfectly on the playstation screen and not in the game, i don't the the Controller needs dismantling!

by

Exactly like the poster's situation, and mine. Jasperion169, I couldn't find support on this so I ended up having to buy a new controller.

Gary, Jagged's solution could work if buttons aren't working at all anywhere. But RTFP... dirty button contacts don't fail for apps but work perfectly on the home screen.

I have the same problem. My controller works only on home menu but not in any games. I did find R2 Button was stuck and it's likely press a little bit all the time. So it's worked for me.

I fixed mine, as Im typing here. It will be hard to believe but i blew really hard near the ×○■ > buttons. And It fixed it instantaneous. Maybe there was some dirt.

The most obvious thing to cause this issue is dirt.

Ben Johnson, you &&^&^$^ retard. Don’t accuse someone of “self indulgent advice” and having an IQ below 90 when it’s YOU who’s suffering from that.

Do yourself a favor, %##&%&#, and look up some articles on this. You’ll find many will say the same thing. I’ve had right trigger issues where some games will work and others won’t.

It’s because the sensitivity of the configuration can vary depending upon how the game is programmed. What works fine in most games won’t work in some.

You must be a typical internet loser who tries to make yourself look like you’re not a loser by insulting people online. Keep YOUR stupid comments to yourself.

your solution didn't work for me. the controller is brand new, right out of the box. it works on my PC and it works on my nephew's console, but not on mine. it's not dirt.

It’s a firmware issue… hold ps button, go to devices, DualShock 4, power off, then turn controller back on and it will work… only way firmware can be fully repaired is via pc

Turn off controller, hold share and ps/home button until white flashing light, connect the controller to your phone or another devices Bluetooth, turn off Bluetooth on the device, connect the controller back to playstation 4 using USB cable, problem should be fixed. Worked for me anyway.
