replaced dock-connector didn't fix my 3GS
My iPhone spent 24 hours in a river! The dock-connector was also damaged during the accident I had causing the phone to go into the river. It almost worked yesterday, white Apple, battery pic but not charging (just red vertical stripe at LH end) I even reached my home page a few times. Also had voice control window, but it wouldn't connect to my carrier. Today however I can't turn it off, and when I try to do that I just get a bright white screen, completely blank white, which dims when left untouched :-(
Is this a good question?

Thank you for your suggestions, but I'm afraid I am giving up now. I have already spent hours trying to recover this iPhone, starting with straight after my accident, I fell crossing a cliff-face and cracked 2 ribs, the iPhone shot out of my pocket at the point of impact; I didn't know where it had gone and I spent at least 6 hours cutting blackberries looking for it before I discovered it in the river next to the blackberries.
Apple have offered to replace it for 170€, I can't afford to waste any more time on it; I've had enough !!! But thanks, it almost made it, incredible when you think it had been lying on the bottom of this river for about 26 hours.
And yes, I pulled it all apart, pulled out everything except the battery; dried everything thoroughly for 10 days before I turned it on after installing the new Dock-Connector; the old one had taken a hit and the plug was all bent.

I should also add that I had for hours on the screen, before I saw my home page and startup picture (custom) the pic of a USB plug-->iTunes, but iTunes refused to recognize the iPhone. I tried all the steps on the Apple site for restoring and getting iTunes to see your iPhone, but *nothing* worked. Then I had the short period where my hopes skyrocketed, my home page appeared, I went into the iPod app but none of my music (at least 18GB's worth) was there. The the phone died, froze, wouldn't switch off anymore, then the white screen appeared and is still there.
