Why won't the cd/dvd drawer open, eject button light is off.

the computer (HP Pavilion dv7-4272us laptop) does not recognize the blank cd I loaded. tried to open the drawer with paper clip point. also tried to eject using ctrl j . also tried to eject while booting up. of course tried restart several times. blank is still in drawer.

Sounds like CD drive has gone bad. One thing you can check is see if the BIOS is detecting the drive. If it is not then that's a sure sign that the drive has gone bad. If the BIOS does detect it, there is still a chance the drive is bad.
