My proximity sensor doesn't respond

I recently replaced a cracked touch panel/digitizer on an iphone. Everything works, the home button, speaker-everything except the proximity sensor. When you make calls, the the iPhone doesn't go blank, as it should, when you make calls. It's not responsive at all. Has anyone else had this problem?
