Why won't my laptop charge?

I spilled some water on my laptop while it was closed. I thought that no water made its way in and to be sure I opened up the back panel. There wasn't any water inside and to be careful I left it to dry and even went over it with a hairdryer. I put the charging cable into the port and nothing happened. I was able to turn the laptop on and the battery indicator light worked, the only thing was that the laptop wouldn't charge. Now the battery died and the laptop isn't able to run off of the charger. It's not the battery so I figured the magsafe port needed to be replaced. I replaced it and still, the laptop won't charge. The laptop should turn on even if the battery isn't working because it can run off the charger directly but that isn't happening. Apple wasn't any help because the model is now considered "vintage". Any ideas? I've also tried a few charges in different outlets.

This can be a tricky one to fix, as it sounds like at some point some liquid did make its way to the inside of the unit. Ruling out the Magsafe board I would recommend taking a peek around the top area of the Logic Board near where the connection for the Magsafe board is, on both sides to be sure, then over the surface of both sides of the board for some corrosion.

Likely somewhere there would be a bit of corrosion at some point possibly causing a problem. This is often some shade of green, or even a white color and is usually found near components on the Logic board itself.

I've had some luck with cleaning this in cases with an ESD safe brush and a bit of rubbing alcohol for some units, but it's a risky fix as you could possibly further damage the board, or even accidentally knock something off the board such as a small component making matters worse.
