A very simple and easy fix to this problem is to take out the fan, and clean the fan with compressed air. Alternatively, you can replace the fan altogether. For more help on this, check the HP Compaq NC6120 Troubleshooting Guide for repair help!

1. Turn off the computer and disconnect from power source(s)

2. Use a vacuum cleaner to suck the dust out of the fan from both outside and inside vents

3. Use the brush mouth piece for the vacuum cleaner to clean the inside of the computer case if you can open it (don't do this if you don't feel comfortable with it)

If step 2 does not work send the computer for repair. However, I have done this for years to all my various computers and I have never had any other computer problems whatsoever.

Good luck and all the best

Peter

And yes I forgot I have a Compaq laptop too that overheats in the summer. I solved this problem by buying one of those fans you sit the computer on and plug it in to the USB port for power. Works a treat :)
