Soft key pressure affects screen, makes screen flicker and turn off

When powering up my phone, sometimes the screen comes on and sometimes it does not. If I keep squeezing the soft key area, eventually the screen comes on. Even after the screen is on (and fully functional), if I push on the soft keys too hard, the screen will flicker and sometimes go off. Also after screen timeout, the screen will usually not come back on without squeezing the area of the softkeys randomly. I have not dropped the phone. Any idea what to check?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Well if you can take it apart following the guide I would first check to make sure make screen was connected aka the ribbon cable to the mother board. If they are and you disconnected them and reconnected them and it still doesn't function properly. I would replace the screen. But that might not help it could be the system board

I will do as you suggested, clean and reconnect the ribbon cable to the motherboard and report back. I am concerned about replacing the most expensive item and it not being the problem. Do you know if a repair store would be able to tell which is causing the problem. Thanks for your response.

I followed your online guide and took the motherboard off the phone, cleaned all the connections with rubbing alcohol, put the phone back together and IT WORKS! Thanks for the great website and tips.
