Can't use thunderbolt for external display

When I tried connecting an external display using Macbook Air 11 thunderbolt, it won't recognize the monitor. I've tried several adapters (HDMI, VGA, DVI) and I would get the same result. But If I use another Macbook Air 11, it would work. So I've concluded, there is something wrong with the thunderbolt.

May I know how much would it cost to have this fixed?

I would recommend you visit an Apple Store if you can. They can offer you an extended warranty on this problem.
