Is it possible to upgrade my processor frm 32 to 64 bit?

I have a pc with Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU 540 @ 3.07GHz which is 32 bit. Can i upgrade it to 64 bit processor or cpu whatever is possible without much change ? please help

Your limit here is the socket in your system and the clock it has: FCLGA1156. So swapping out your CPU is most likely not going to be possible.

Instead you could replace your logic board if the power supply was able to support it.

I think in the long haul it will be cheaper just getting a new system.

If your processor has at least 2 cores, you can use a 64 bit operating system which will make your computer 64 bits! A 64 bit OS can address more RAM than a 32 bit OS which means you can add more RAM!

Tom, It's not the cores, it's the instruction set the given chip supports. In this case 64bit (checkout the URL link above). As to the memory the CPU can support 16GB if the memory controller chip used and the sockets can support it.
