Trying to restore, but won't load softwware

My iPad froze the other day, I intially tried to reset it, that worked for a short period of time and refroze. I tried to restore the iPAD to factory setting through iTunes. The restore process gets to the point where it extracts the software and waiting on the iPAD. My iPAD shows the Apple logo with the status bar underneath but will not go any further in the process
