Noisy Fan, Heating Issues, Slow Computer

My Macbook Air 2011, has a very noisy fan. It heats up abnormally on use, and when its really hot, it becomes very slow. I went to the Apple Store where they claimed that the entire machine is busted- they said liquid damage. I went to a repair shop and they said only the fan is busted and can be fixed with a 60 USD repair. Whom do I believe? Has anyone ever faced this issue?

Do replace the thermal compound between the heat sink and the chips. I recommend Arctic Silver 5, it will lower the temps. Insofar as the fan goes: Remove it from the laptop. Put a drop or 2 of 3-N-1 oil on the brass bearing. Spin it around a few times by hand to work the oil in. Wipe any excess oil away with a paper towel. Put a small piece of paper over the bearing, then tape the paper to the housing. The fan should last you a few more years after this.
