Can't hold charge and heats up

Hello everybody,

Got a nice old ipod touch 3rd gen running 5.1.1, it was out of commision for about 2 years because it wouldn't hold a charge no matter what.

Also when i would use the ipod it would get Extremely hot and discharge way too fast ( ~1h ).

I changed the battery today but the problem persists, any ideas are welcomed.
