Dell Mini 1010 runs horribly slow with an SSD!

I have upgraded MANY laptops including a Dell 1018. I am an electrical engineer as well as certified in Microsoft and Cisco. I've never had this happen. I installed new Kingston HyperX, Sandisk and PNY SSDs in this Dell 1010. It performs amazingly well for what it is, but slows to an unusable crawl with an SSD. I am an IT professional, so please don't suggest the obvious. Has anyone seen this problem?

I've been having the same issue, but worse in one aspect.

I think the problem is with how the SATA controller is implemented in the 1010; instead of using AHCI it's using legacy PATA mode emulation. When I still had WinXP installed on mine I remember that the SATA controller appeared as a standard IDE controller. Even with the latest A11 bios installed there's no way to change the SATA port from IDE to AHCI mode (thanks Dell).

The issue I've been having is that I cannot get any older generation OCZ SSD to work. The BIOS recognizes it and so does the OS (Linux Mint). When it comes time to partition and install the OS, the drive returns errors and causes the machine to lock. I've tried two different older (but still relatively new) OCZ drives.

I did try a brand new SanDisk Ultra 128GB SSD and it worked fine. It wasn't a lot faster than an HDD but at least it worked. I'm currently trying to use a 16GB CF card through a CF to SATA adapter to see if it'll work. So far it's installing the OS but the true test is when it reboots and I use it for real.
