What could be wrong now?

Have a 1229 17" Mac book pro...the battery swelled so I put in a new one and the touch pad and keyboard wouldn't work. I have replaced the cables and the keyboard and they still won't work, what could be wrong?

Dan..if you are still around, I have hooked up a wireless keyboard...ran diagnostics and it does not see the on-board keyboard or touchpad! Otherwise everything works fine! Do you think at this point it could be the uppercase? I want my laptop back!! LOL! Not a laptop if you have to carry around and extra keyboard!

Starting to sound like it - Sorry ;-{

With the battery removed and the power adapter plugged in are you able to run your system?

Yes....but the system works with the new battery...just no keyboard or touchpad! I was wondering if the upper case may have been screwed...it was in my briefcase for a couple days while traveling and didn't notice the swollen battery until I pulled it out to use it!

At this point you'll need an external keyboard & mouse (USB or bluetooth). So you can run your system. Try running Apple Hardware Test (AHT) to see if an error pops. Otherwise I would suspect the connection on the logic board is messed up. Did you follow the IFIXIT guide?

Thanks Dan! I have a wireless trackball I have always used, do you recommend a decent wireless keyboard? And yes...I always use the ifix guides....had to replace the keyboard from a spill last year! If the connection on the logic board is screwed...what options do I have?

The Apple keyboard is what I use, as I like the low profile (less stress on the wrists). If that is not an issue for you and you want to save some money there are others which have the full Apple mapping. You can also use a Windows version too, it may not offer all of the functions (or be labeled correctly). I was thinking of using it for diagnostics process, but you could also use it as a solution as well if the logic board connector is damaged.

Hi, I have a A1229, and its suffered the same problems, battery swelled and after doesn't work touchpad and keyboard with a new battery equivalent. But if I put, near of the circuit the metal piece of old battery then keyboard and touchpad start. I think that can be a problem of capacity in some capacitor, it's estranger. Do you know something about a similar problem in other units?

Thanks and best regards...
