Do I need a thermal paste when changing the GPU?

I changed the GPU w/heat sink on my Imac 24" EMC2111, however the instructions did not indicate that thermal paste was necessary when installing the new GPU. It has been operating perfectly ever since the change. Does anyone have any input? Thanks

Given the age of your system I would clean & refresh the thermal paste on both CPU & GPU's.

While things may appear OK now when you start using graphics intensive stuff (games & Photo or video editing) you will encounter less that ideal heat transfer which can cook your chip. Over time it will fail and/or cause other odd problems.
