No power after battery replacement, ripped power/volume cable

Hi everyone and thanks in advance for your help.

I ripped on of the 4 ribbon wires connecting the power/volume cable as i was doing my battery replacement. I dont mind ordering and soldering the new cable in although it seems quite difficult, but is there any way to test if that is really the cause of why my ipod isn't powering up after my battery replacement? i mean should it automatically power up once plugged in (that is if i ripped the power terminals) and shouldnt the volume not be a factor in the ipod powering up or not?
