Why can't I restore the original software?
That's basically my question. I have the original operating system downloaded and I know how to put it on the phone but it does not work.
Is this a good question?

The original iPhone stopped getting updates at iOS 3.1.3 - I believe that is the only version that works at this point. Generally speaking, Apple only keeps one version available for each phone. I can't install iOS 7.0.3 on my iPhone 5s now that iOS 7.0.4 is available.
You'll want to try and install that OS version. Let us know if that works for you.
