Your system is a PSTwo, not a PS2.

Check to see if the sensor on the PSTwo laser is broken off, or stuck down or up. It's a tiny black nub on the surface of the laser closest to the transport (disc spinning motor). It's supposed to freely push in and pop back out. It's easy to make it stuck if a sticky liquid gets in there.

Good Luck.

it seems good with mine, yet the issue remains

I had this issue and was able to fix it. I had to take apart the spindle assembly and resolder the sensor button. The solder was very dull so my only guess is it wasn’t making good contact with the board.
