The STB button doesn't ligh-tup when it pushed

Hopefully this isn't too late for you. It will at least be available for others who face our problem.

Step 1: Remove the battery cover.

Step 2: Remove the screws that are under the battery cover.

Step 3: Remove the sliding panel at the bottom of the remote. Gentle pressure under the center of the door will lift it over the retaining tab. You might have to apply a little pressure on one side of the door to get it to release. Again... GENTLE.

Step 4: Work a very thin screw driver into the small gaps at the bottom of the remote in the area that was under that sliding door. I used a jewelers screwdriver. Gently work the blade around and back and forth until you hear a tab pop. Then get the other side's tab to pop. Use fingers and blade to get that end segment to pop open.

Step 5: Carefully work your way up both sides of the remote with the screwdriver releasing tab after tab. You can pop one on one side and then go after the matching one on the other side. Sometimes you can do two at a time on one side before doing the other side. Try not to apply pressure on the silver/gray side trim. It is decoration only. Get the blade in between the black top piece and the black bottom piece to pop them apart. Do this along the sides up to the top.

Step 6: The retaining tabs that are at the very top of the remote can be released with a gentle pulling apart and slight twisting of the top piece and bottom piece. Everything should be open and the layers should come apart easily.

Note: Be aware that the plastic frame parts on the big circular pad in the center of the remote face may fall out when you pull things apart. Not a big deal. Just make sure you reassemble it correctly. Be patient and look closely at it. It goes together pretty much one way and has sized tabs that help to get it right.

Step 7: Do whatever cleaning you need to do. For my situation, some liquid had gotten into the volume control area. I used a q-tip to clean it up.

Step 8: Before snapping it back together, fit all of the layers in the bottom piece then do a test of the buttons to make sure they work. (Replace the batteries if you removed them, of course.)

Step 9: Assuming all of the buttons worked and you are ready to reassemble, transfer all of the layers into the top piece (best done with the top piece upside down) and make sure they fit well. Make sure the two silver/gray trim pieces are firmly in place on the bottom layer. Hold the upside-down bottom piece above the upside-down top piece and snap the bottom piece into the top piece.

Step 10: Recheck that the buttons work. Re-open and try again, if necessary.

Step 11: Assuming all the buttons work, replace the sliding panel from step 3. Get its tracks aligned with the remote's tracks and it should be a simple pop in. Heavy force is not necessary.

Step 12: Replace the screws

Step 13: Replace the battery cover.
