Can I remove a cd label from the drive?

I (stupidly) put a cd in to burn and I applied the label first. Ugh! After a few minutes, I got an error message saying there was a problem with the disc. It then, automatically ejected the disc.... with no label. Now, it will not accept a disc. When I put another in, just to check, it goes all the way in, but then ejects immediately. Is there a way for me to get the label out myself? Has anyone had this issue? Please help, I certainly don't want to spend hundreds on parts and labor.
