iPhone 6 Plus: Touchscreen randomly becomes unresponsive

Hi,

bought an iPhone 6 Plus on eBay. It's in perfect condition and I think I got a bargain. It has an issue though, which was why it was sold as not working: the touchscreen randomly becomes unresponsive and the phone needs a reset to make it start working again.

It seems to do it particularly if left untouched for a while.

I did a restore in DFU mode and it's still doing it.

It's 16 months old so out of warranty with Apple.

I booked an appointment with a genius tomorrow, but I believe that they won't fix that for free, even if I read on their forum lots of people complain about this issue especially after upgrading to iOS 9.

Also, worth mentioning that I checked the serial number of this iPhone and it qualifies for the Apple free iSight camera replacement program for the Iphone 6 Plus (rear camera producing blurry images).

Does it sound like a software issue or a hardware one? Thanks in advance for any replies.

Update (04/29/2016)

No, screen looks fine. No lines or anything like that. Phone has no dents and is cosmetically in mint condition.

Pretty sure touchscreen stops working only after the phone has gone in standby for a while. If I am using it, it works fine so I don't understand how it can be a hardware issue.

Update (04/29/2016)

Ah I have noticed that if I keep tapping while the screen is unresponsive, the tap on the screen will sometimes register but the only thing that works is a reset and sometimes I have to reset twice in a row for the touchscreen to become responsive again.

Update (04/29/2016)

My iPhone doesn't display a grey bar though. Also, yesterday it became unresponsive, I kept tapping the camera icon, the touch input finally registered and that unfroze the touchscreen without even a reset.

I'm starting to think it's just a faulty digitizer.

Update (05/15/2019)

I wanted to give an update since a couple of years have passed…

The phone worked perfectly for a year or so after they replaced the rear camera then the touch disease returned.

It definitely did something good to the phone as it allowed me to use it for quite a while before packing up for good.

I sold the phone on eBay as not working for about the same money I paid for it so I didn't lose money on it.

iPhone 5: Erratic touchscreen after iOS 7.04 upgrade on iPhone 5

I had no problems with the touchscreen prior to upgrading to iOS 7.0.4 in December.

The next day I started having problems with the touchscreen.

At first it only acted erratic when my finger got near the screen, even before I actually touched it. Whatever was on the screen would jitter and not respond properly to what I was trying to do.

I found that just pressing the lock button would fix it, at least for a while.

Now, locking the phone only corrects the problem some of the time.

Also, it sometimes now gets "possessed" and will open apps, zoom in & out, or even make phone calls if the phone app is open. Even if I'm not holding the phone or near it in any way.

Sometimes I can be actively using the phone for more than an hour with no problems. Sometimes it comes and goes for a while.

It has never gotten wet. It's only been dropped a couple times, but always in a protective case and not more than 2 feet off the floor.

The screen is not cracked, and I have never opened the phone. And it was not jail broken.

I have reset the phone multiple times, with and without a backup, and the problem is still there.

My phone is past the Apple 1 year warranty.

iPhone 6: Microphone issues only with Siri

I have a bit of an odd issue that I thought would be a quick fix, but has proved to leave me scratching my head.

3 months ago my iPhone 6 got some slight water damage in my pocket.

Shortly after everything seemed to be working just fine until I tried to use Siri and thats where I first noticed my problem. Let me confirm one thing, the microphone works great for phone calls, great with video, great with almost everything, yet when I try use siri, it shows the waves as if there is audio input, but no real audio is getting in.

When I attach headphones siri works great! No issues, but when I take them out, I get just waves of audio, but not actually audio coming from me.

I have only noticed this effect in one other area and that is with sending voice memos within iMessage, it is just a bunch of static noise. Normal voice memos work great.

Any thoughts on a solution

I tried replacing the lighting port assembly just now, which includes the microphone on the bottom, but alas, the same issue is still present. I am lost for ideas.

All help is appreciated. I can make a quick video if necessary.

iPhone 5: Purple Lines on screen, no reaction on the screen

I've got recently a problem with my Iphone 5 what causes purple lines on the screen and after a few seconds it even doesnt react anymore. What actually is interesting that when I press the lock button and I go back again to the screen the problem is fixed for a few seconds. Another clue to fix it is for me to turn the brightness down to the lowest level so the purple lines doesnt appear actually. So in conclusion it is like more brightness -> as faster it gets into that purple lines problem.

My big problem is now I actually dont know what causes the problem ?

Anyways here is a video what shows the problem from another user: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qq1H71T...

iPhone 5: iPhone 5 Rear Camera Won't Focus

The camera in my iPhone 5 won't focus. The focal point is stuck at about 6 inches. I've tried resetting it to factory settings and restoring it, with no success. I also reverted back to iOS 6.0.1 from 6.0.2 after reading online that it might be a software problem. Other people say it's a hardware problem and that the phone will have to be replaced by Apple. Problem is, they only replace it with a refurbished phone, which is terrible customer service...I just got it in November.

Has anyone had this problem, and will replacing the camera with one from iFixit solve the problem?

iPhone 4: iPhone 4 won't charge!

Hi, I've had my iPhone 4 for 1 year now, and until yesterday it was working perfectly. But yesterday I noticed that it hadn't charged overnight although I had plugged it in for charging. However, when I plugged it into my MacBook, I could still transfer data. But it was not charging. Instead of the charging (zig-zag line) icon on the battery symbol there was a plug icon on it, showing that it was completely charged. But still it was showing 20%. And now, this morning my iPhone is completely dead and will only switch on when I plug it into my wall charger. As soon as I disconnect it from the charger, it switches off and does not turn on anymore.

What do you think: will a battery change fix the problem? Thanks for your help!

iPhone 5: NANDJ_ Find flash media and keep out ERROR FIX!

If you are ever messing around with your iPhone 5 and put it back together, you may come across the "cannot find flash media" or "FIND flash media and keep out" error —and this will not let you boot properly. It gives you the red screen of death, but it can also just give you the error code and then restart or just show the Apple logo and then restart.

I found the fix, finally. I believe I am the first to find this, and it is relatively simple to fix. This is probably my first post on the internet that can actually help a majority of people that I've seen with this error and no fix for it yet. So from what I've experienced it's due to your front camera sensor assembly connector being damaged. The connectors on these things are extremely fragile and the connector seems to bow like a banana fairly easy.

Fix:

So here is a way to try to narrow down the problem. Hook up only the LCD/Digitizer connector only, and "hard reset your phone" and see if it starts back up. If it does, then you've found out that it's for sure the front camera connector.

Update

There are 2 parts to this 3rd connector. The Proximity SENSOR and the FRONT CAMERA are soldered together like an assembly. I highly recommend purchasing the assembly (front camera and proximity sensor) and not just the front camera flex cable, as it is EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to install. And I mean DIFFICULT.
