We're hiring

iFixit is a small company with a big goal: we want to show the world how to fix every thing. ¶

Our staff is the focal point of a global community of people showing people how to fix the things they own. We believe that we can make the world better by empowering people to take control of their hardware.

We are the world's foremost experts on Apple repair, and we've set the gold standard for online repair documentation. We have already helped millions of people fix their own Apple devices, and we plan to help tens of millions more.

iFixit is a great place to work. We have an incredible working environment, a world-class team, and a vision to change the world. Our team loves having fun together. We have regular barbecues, enjoy a catered lunch together once a week, and have beer night at Spike's after farmer's market on Thursdays. We take the entire team to Maker Faire every year to gawk at Tesla coils and show people how to take professional repair photos.

We are based in San Luis Obispo, one of the most amazing places in the world. SLO is the heart of California's lovely central coast. We live here because we love the community, natural beauty, freedom from traffic, and huge variety of fun things to do. When we're not kayaking along the coast or basking outside in the sunshine, we buckle down and do things that make the world better.

Open Positions ¶

We are always on the lookout for passionate, talented people. Please drop us a line, even if you don't exactly fit one of these positions.

User Interface Designer ¶

We need an exceptionally talented User Interface Designer who has successfully shipped web applications and wants to help us fix the world.

The designer we hire will have:

  • A minimalist sensibility.
  • The need for speed.
  • An almost religious desire to impose good typography on the world.
  • Experience designing intuitive web applications.
  • An abundance of strong opinions, weakly held.

Our designers:

  • Work closely with our other designers and engineers to craft and implement our plans for world domination.
  • Set our creative direction, helping our team calibrate everything from UI and content to marketing, photography, and package design.
  • Iterate toward perfection.
  • Prototype rapidly, failing early and often — and succeeding even more.

This position is a tremendous opportunity to make the world better through design. We believe that design strongly influences culture and that constraints inspire rather than limit creativity. The design of our software and repair manuals is the vanguard of a worldwide cultural backlash against consumerism and toward repair.

Design Intern ¶

We're looking for design interns at our San Luis Obispo location.

You should:

  • Have a design portfolio and links to online projects you have worked on.
  • Pursue simplicity and clarity in everything you make.
  • Have some experience with HTML, CSS and web design principles.
  • Have some experience with printed media and package design.

This position requires working part-time during school and full-time during summer.

Software Engineering Intern ¶

We're looking for part-time programming interns at our San Luis Obispo location. You'll be developing innovative, cutting edge HTML5 highly-scalable web applications. We need JavaScript, CSS, SQL, and Linux skills. Show us what you've built!

Working for a small company on a tight-knit team is a chance to manifest your creativity in a way that will make a big difference in the final product. This will be a challenging job. If you want to work your butt off and make incredible software with us, please apply.

  • Have a portfolio of code or links to online projects you have worked on. We want to see what you're enthusiastic about.
  • Be passionate about writing good code.

This position requires working part-time during school and full-time during summer.

To apply: send an email to jobs@ifixit.com and include a PDF of your resume, as well as a short cover letter explaining two things: why you're badass, and why you're the ideal candidate for this job.

Marketing Director ¶

iFixit needs an experienced marketing director who knows how to provide customers with win-win solutions, build markets, and close deals.

We are a cutting edge company that understands how to build community, drive traffic, and has been described as a leading innovator in 'Marketing 3.0.' We are regularly referenced in mainstream media outlets.

We've been featured on Inc's list of the 5000 fastest growing small companies the past three years.

We don't want customers who aren't absolutely thrilled with our services.

The director of our marketing strategy will:

  • Outflank, surround, and destroy our competition.
  • Deploy time strategically.
  • Write. Frequently, well, and with alacrity.
  • Brainstorm, filter, and execute new strategies.
  • Incorporate video into our workflow.

Our marketing philosophy:

  • Eschew traditional media and advertising.
  • Make news.
  • Build community.
  • Make our customers awesome.
  • Lead the repair industry into the 21st century.

We're selective, and we don't think you can tell if someone's good at marketing from a resume. So send us a portfolio of your work. Wow us with what you've accomplished.
