iFixit is a small company with a big goal: we want to show the world how to fix everything. ¶
Our staff is the focal point of a global community of people showing people how to fix the things they own. We believe that we can make the world better by empowering people to take control of their hardware.
We are the world's foremost experts on Apple repair, and we've set the gold standard for online repair documentation. We have already helped millions of people fix their own Apple devices, and we plan to help tens of millions more.
iFixit is a great place to work. We have an incredible working environment, a world-class team, and a vision to change the world. Our team loves having fun together. We have regular barbecues, enjoy a catered lunch together once a week, and have beer night at Spike's after farmer's market on Thursdays. We take the entire team to Maker Faire every year to gawk at Tesla coils and show people how to take professional repair photos.
We are based in San Luis Obispo, one of the most amazing places in the world. SLO is the heart of California's lovely central coast. We live here because we love the community, natural beauty, freedom from traffic, and huge variety of fun things to do. When we're not kayaking along the coast or basking outside in the sunshine, we buckle down and do things that make the world better.

Open Positions ¶
We are always on the lookout for passionate, talented people. Please drop us a line, even if you don't exactly fit one of these positions.
Technical Writer / Tinkerer ¶
iFixit's staff is the focal point of a global community showing people how to fix the things they own. We believe that we can make the world better by empowering people to take control of their hardware.
We're looking for a local, part-time writer/tinkerer to spearhead our repair effort by creating unparalleled repair guides for electronics, cars, motorcycles, appliances, and just about anything else we think would be fun to take apart. The ideal candidate will also help administrate the technical writing project by interfacing with students across the country.
- Enjoy tinkering, taking things apart, and fixing all their friends' stuff.
- Have certain electronic and mechanical aptitude — know their way around an engine or the latest smartphone.
- Have impeccable grammar. Speak and write succinctly and clearly.
- Have editing experience, and enjoy correcting tpyos and errors of the grammar.
- Progress through life with a sense of humor.
This position is part-time during the school year, and full-time during summer at our San Luis Obispo office. Remote opportunities are not available for this position. Apple industry experience is not necessary; neither is any specific degree. We'd say that the ideal candidate would be an electronics/mec
To apply: send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and include a PDF of your resume, as well as a short cover letter explaining two things: why you're badass, and why you're the ideal candidate for this job.
Customer Service ¶
We pride ourselves on our exceptional customer service and highly satisfied customers. We're growing, and looking for highly-motivated individuals to join our team. You'll communicate with customers via phone and email. We strive to always have a live human being that's both friendly and knowledgeable answer our incoming customer phone calls and emails. Diagnosing problems and helping with installation remotely can be challenging. By testing devices and parts, you'll learn to systematically troubleshoot hardware issues in Macs, iPods, iPhones and more. When not helping customers, you'll be processing returns, testing products, evaluating new repair guides, and moderating our community.
Excellent communication skills and a willingness to learn are required.
Competence with computers is essential. We're a Mac-based business, which means experience with Macs is helpful, but not required. Integrity, reliability, and attention to detail are critical. If you know a thing or two about programming as well, point that out to us in your cover letter.
This position is available immediately at our conveniently located San Luis Obispo headquarters. This is a full time position.
- Take a look at our website.
- Look over your resume and write a cover letter. Include in your cover letter why you want this job and why your skills and/or experience would be a good addition to our team. This job does require written communication, so spelling and grammar are very important.
- Save both documents in PDF format.
- Email the documents to email@example.com
