I'd strongly suggest you get the ac supply, controller and the av leads or you'll never know much about the faults. Once you have those things you can plug it in to the tv and see what if anything works. If you have a known good power supply and the unit lights up or you get a signal on the tv but the game won't run then you are narrowing down the field of errors. At the moment you're looking for a needle in a haystack.
It can be fun, but you have to tell us first what it does, what it doesn't do? Also, what are your abilities in repairing things and do you have some tools?
oldturkey03,
well i just bought it but it has no cables and they didnot tell me whats wrong and i have all the tools i think i need
tony,
Okay so have you hooked all the cables up? Do you have power? Use your multimeter to check that first.
oldturkey03,
i dont have cables
tony,
that would be the first thing to do..then you can see what powers up. ;-)
pollytintop,
again i only have the system and my tools and thats it
tony,
tony, listen to what pollytintop is telling you. If you want get started with electronics repair, and have fun it is important to use a systematic approach. Never take anything for granted, always double check any claim made. Who knows, there may be nothing wrong with it, but you ca\n not tell, until you try to power it up. :-)
oldturkey03,
thanks for the help guys ill take your advice and buy the cables oh and do you think i can get the controllers cables ect. for 5 bucks or less?
tony,
scrounging is the name of the game, check craigslist, local pawn shops, yard sale, fleamarkets and ebay You just never know what you will come across. Get anything you can get cheap, build up an inventory, and have fun. There is nothing nicer than having all those projects and not enough time to fix them :-)
oldturkey03,
thanks for your help ill do just that and 1 more thing i am thinking of makeing a costom paint job is this a good idea
tony,
modding and personalizing ones console is the name of the game. Just have fun with it, learn new skills, and pay attention to good advise....:-)
