How to fix error 29 in itunes

History

Hi folks, I needed a new battery for my iphone 3gs. After much research I figured ifixit had the most quality batteries. So I get the battery, pop it in, and it keeps resetting constantly. So I restore it. Bad idea. Now its stuck in recovery and every time I restore it fails. Now here is the really crappy part. iFixit has sent me a replacement that does the exact same thing. No matter what battery I use now it is stuck in this recovery mode.

Help would be really appreciated.

Update

No I trashed the phone, I tried multiple batteries and nothing worked, even the stock battery doesnt work any more, it always give me errors when trying to restore so I threw it in the trash.

zechtech, it is my understanding that the error is caused by the mismatch of the battery to the logic board. Now, you could try to use software like Tinyumbrella or iRecovery to see if you can kick the phone out of the loop. Or try to either exchange the battery once more, or if you are skilled enough, you might try to desolder the original circuit board from the battery and solder it onto the replacement one. This should clear the mismatch. It's somewhat tough, and I've only tried it once. But it is an option. Hope this helps, good luck.

This is no longer an option for me because even the old battery gives me error 29.

zechtech,

Try and see if you get anywhere with the software...

oldturkey03,

I have tried, I have used 3 different computers to attempt to update it to 5.1, the latest fw, only to get error 29 every time. When i attempt to downgrade it always fails even before even trying to actually do anything to the phone.

zechtech,

I was actually thinking about Tinyumbrella or iRecovery not a different computer.....

Make sure that the new batery is the same model as the old one. Depending on the release date, they(3gs) have different batery models. I hope that helped.
