GE Washer/Dryer - Kit Cover Bracket

Hi folks. Let me preface this by stating that normally I would never accept delivery on something new that's not 100%. However, the reason I ask this is I'm temporarily disabled (foot surgery) and the logistics of just getting around are not pretty much less trying to get out to my detached garage where the washer is, etc., etc.

The unit GE GUD27ESSMWW came with a piece inside the washer reservoir loose - when they guy took out the cardboard packing material this metal thing came clanking out. It is Part #109 on this diagram and labeled "Kit Cover Bracket".

Anyone know what this is for? The unit appears to be working but I haven't been able to get out there and play with it much.

Thanks in advance to anyone who has advice!

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Okay, further searching found others with the same exact problem - GE (well, the Chinese company that now owns your appliance division), you have a QA problem.

The responses I'm finding are similar to:

This is a bracket that attaches under the washer top, to the front cabinet, it is to prevent clothes from falling down inside the front of it, in front of the tub.

so my take from that is while not 100% cosmetic, it serves no purpose beyond keeping me from dropping clothes down the front of the unit.

Since this seems to be a common issue, I'd hate to have them replace the unit only to find the new one has the same problem.
