Hi Anderson, That sounds like a hardware issue with your battery. There are a couple of things that could be causing this:

  • Degraded battery: Batteries don't last forever, and over time they lose their capacity to hold a charge. If your laptop is a few years old, this is a likely culprit.
  • Faulty battery: In some cases, batteries can become defective and malfunction.

Here's what you can do:

  • Check your laptop's battery health settings. Most laptops will have some way to see how much capacity your battery has left. A degraded battery will typically show a lower percentage than it used to.
  • Look for signs of physical damage to your laptop, like bulging in the back where the battery is located.

You can look for a replacement on iFixit.com or Amazon.com.

Hi @andersonch70084

Create a battery report to check the status of the battery.

When you have the report, compare the Design Capacity value against the Full Charge Capacity value.

To work out the condition as a percentage, use the formula Full Charge capacity value x 100 ÷ Design Capacity value.

If it is <35% you may wish to consider replacing the battery.

What is the model number of the laptop as shown on the product information label on the bottom of the laptop?

Here is the service manual for a Vostro 5402 and a Vostro 5300, that may help.

Use the manual(s) to access the battery in your laptop so that you can verify the part number which is printed on the battery e.g. JK6Y6, H5CKD etc. Search online using the part number only, applicable to your battery, to find suppliers that suit you best.

If you do replace the battery, remember to responsibly dispose of the old battery. The environment will thank you for doing this. ;-)
