We'll have to wait for her to give us more information about the specifics of her vehicle, but it's a fairly safe bet that determining the fluid level is far more involved than just checking a dipstick. I know on my New Beetle it's a nightmare with a whole sequence of requirements to be met; level ground, a specific temperature, etc.

Well “Tiguan” and “transmission” is hardly specific at all, what region, what year and what trim it is, different productions may use different transmissions.
If it’s a DCT it could have two separate pockets of transmission fluids, otherwise it’s just one.
