has there been any way discovered to marry a new renesas to the ps4 so the disc drive will work? mine may be toast because a pin broke off when i removed it to swap it to a replacement daughter board. i hope it can be fixed because the motherboard works and just needs a hard drive

I hate to say this, but no.
There is no official legit way to fix it when the disc drive PCB is broken. Only Sony can fix this for you as they can marry another PCB with the motherboard and match the codes.

is there a pinout for the renesas so i can see if mine is toast or if i can salvage it
I tried to searching it, but can’t find it.. I’ll try later searching for it again, sorry.
another question, will a different daughter board at least allow me to install the firmware or am i going to get the same error it gives when it can't find the blu-ray drive
Can you add a picture regarding the drives it's PCB? Then I'll search on that :).
2nd question answer: No. It will give you a different error which prohibit you to update the system. The disc drive PCB need to be intact before you can update the firmware unfortunate...

@techlord could just be the flux etc. but it looks like plenty of solder bridges on your contacts. Consider cleaning it and check for solder bridges. Looks like there maybe a little edge left. Got some excellent soldering skills and good tools?

I agree with oldturkey. Looks like some connections are bridged. Make sure none of them are bridged.
