Well, the good news is yes, the problem is fixable, but the bad news is it won't be cheap. Unfortunately that's an issue with the connections between the flex cable and the delicate glass circuits and is not repairable, so the fix is to replace the screen.

On your phone the normal/recommended method is to replace the screen plus frame assembly as one part. That alleviates any possible issues with removing and replacing the screen and the associated mess with gluing it back on, but the tradeoff is that you have to basically gut the phone; remove everything from inside and transfer it all to a new frame. It's actually not as bad as it sounds, as they make it relatively straight-forward to do - it's far easier than it would be on something like an iPhone, for instance.

I couldn't find any written iFixit-style guides for your phone, but I did locate a YouTube video that shows the procedure.

Taiwan Sony Xperia 5-II replace screen 索尼 Xperia 5-II 更換螢幕 非副廠單片 Sony mobile phone screen repair - YouTube

You'll note at the beginning of the video that the screen they're replacing has exactly the same problem yours does, but theirs is much more pronounced.

As far as replacement parts, you'll want to search for them based on your phone model. I generally start with Amazon, eBay and AliExpress, depending on my budget and time frame. Here's one that came up on my somewhat cursory search.

For Sony Xperia 5 II SO-52A, XQ-AS52, LCD Display Touch Screen Digitizer Frame

Many of the ones that were returned did not come with the frame attached; you can certainly use one of those, but you'll need a different tutorial and don't forget you'll need glue as well.

Hopefully that tells you what you wanted to know; sorry I don't have better news. Let us know how it all turns out!

Wait. My wife experienced this exact same issue today. Her phone was laying still on the table, she locked it, unlocked it and there was a vertical purple line in the screen.

Xperia 5 II, too. Was there maybe some software update and an issue with that?

by

@markusschnepf Those sort of lines are almost always a result of a failed screen rather than a software problem, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to try and rule out the software.

Try rebooting the phone and see if the line is there all the time, or doesn't appear until the operating system has loaded. If it is there continuously then that's almost certainly a bad screen, but if it only shows up after the phone has booted completely then there's a small possibility it could be a rogue app or something. In that case I'd suggest backing up the phone and resetting it to factory settings to clear out any apps that could be causing the problem.

Given the high price of those screens, I'd definitely want to rule out all other possibilities first, myself.

Exact same issue here. Sitting on table untouched one minute not there, suddenly appeared. Can't be a coincidence in Feb without dropping hast to be software related. It also disappears sometimes but as I unlock the screen reappears slowly from very light to very pronounced. I see Samsung users have same pink, same pink line same position. More than a handful of owners all happened to have exact same pink line in the same spot around the same month that's not probable. Has to be an android software problem not hardware. I had just installed Microsoft teams when it happened to me

@chadr45962 I have to disagree about the possibility of it being software and not hardware. Isn't it entirely possible that a hardware design flaw in the screen could cause the same kind of defect in multiple screens? It may be that the screen defect could be triggered by software, but ultimately it's almost certainly a hardware problem.

One way to find out - replace the screen and see if that fixes it. If it's software there'll be no change and if it's hardware that will resolve the issue.

So after much research I found https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NCtMWpx.... Now for Samung you type *#0*# brings up a diognostic and you can cycle through Red,Green ad blue screens and pink line goes. The problem I was having was that samsung code doesnt work for xperia ,so I did a factory reset and pink line remained. I eventually found an app tha does it on the xperia -screen diagonistic and to my surprise it worked. Didn't have to spend on a screen replacement.(Which by the way is a higher price than buying a "used" xperia 5ii off Amazon I found in exellent condition)Which I would have done if this didn't work.
