Power is on, but blank blue screen, no games. why?

I bought a game boy advance sp to my son. he didn't even use it for a week suddenly the game list disappeared and only the blue screen remained. each time you on the blue screen appears but there are no games. how do we repair it? can it happen if he drops it down? i think he did drop it once.
