mend, the very first thing I would start with to clean the dock connector. Use some compressed air, isopropyl alcohol and a small non-metallic pick i.e. toothpick. Make sure that your pins are not corroded, bend or broken. If all that checks out okay and you still have problems, replace the battery. It is possible that the battery is at the end of its lifespan. Not a terribly difficult job, follow this guide Installing iPod Classic Battery and you can get the battery from here iPod Classic (Thin) Replacement Battery as well as many other places. Hope this helps, good luck.
thanks for your reply do you mean to try to clean it from the bottom of the ipod? inside where the wire goes? does it make sence that sinse the battery is almost finished it wont connect to a computer?, (when i leave it over night and its charged in the morning it does last for quite a bit!)
mend,
correct, you must clean the part where the cable plugs in. Even something as trivial as pocket lint can cause your dock connector from not working properly. Your original question stated that it was not charging, now you are saying that it does charger when left on a charger overnight, your battery may just not hold a charge for long. If it still does not work, replace the battery.
do you know if i could use a battery for a video in a classic and visa versa? btw thanks for your help
