Can I connect a 24 pin power supply to a 10 pin motherboard?

Hi!

So I am recently going to upgrade my pc with a few components and one that was required was a better power supply. So I went and found the perfect power supply for my needs apart that it is 24 pin and not 10 like my motherboard. I have seen a lot of people use adapters (24 pin female to 10 pin male) but I want to make sure if it's safe and reliable or maybe find a better solution.

Thank you.

Answer this question I have this problem too

The part description says:

"Converts any standard ATX power supply to work with your 10-Pin motherboard"

Therefore, it must be OK.

But then I have never seen a 10 pin motherboard.

I have a Corsair 650 w power supply, will it be okay? If so, do I just buy a random adapter that I find or do you guys suggest any websites? I have some websites saved if you want to take a look and give a thought

If it states the above, then it is clear it is for that function. The 24 pin connector has a lot of duplicate pins for 12V & 5V. The 10 pin obviously does not have all these duplicates. I am assuming, since I have not seen a 10 pin MB, that the current requirements for the 10 pin MBs are much less than the 24 pins MBs which is why they use only 10 pins. You should be good with any of the adapters.

10 pin seems to be or is going to be the new standard, also know as ATX12VO. You can is this ADAPTER specifically for IBM/Lenovo.

Is there any way to DIY because the shipping is insane, 60 to 70 usd just for shipping

@irdi_j What country do you live in?

by

@irdi_j search for a 24 pin to 10 pin connector in your country. I do not recommend a DIY method unless you have no other option. This will require cutting , modifying and testing the voltage on each pin in both connectors and then re-pining the connectors. . Not to mention you will also need to short the green with ground wires in order for your new power supply to even turn on. Its doable , but not recommended unless you know exactly what you are doing. Sorry, i know this may not help but i highly recommend acquiring the proper adapter.
