shut down screen pops up?

I have a Ibook g4 1.42 with an 80GB hard drive 1.5GB DDR RAM,and has a new battery. I'm running tiger on it and it runs really good the problem is I get a little black screen that pops up and tells me to restart using the power button. This happens often and while I've been on the computer for about a hour or less.

Why does this do this and how can I fix it?

The black page that pops up is a called a "kernal panic event", a message sent by the computer to warn you that there's a software or hardware probleme occuring. It could be a lot of issues but in your case if you still have the machine original hard drive from 2005 I would suspect it to be the culprit but I could be wrong. Does it always happens when using the same application or do you feel the computer is overheating ? Ram issue ?

I have found the cause of kernal panics to be memory more often than not. Since you have checked out lemerises answer without success I would try checking out your memory. + to lemerise and AB
