Car not turning left/right.

Hi, I have a generic remote controlled car toy which the left/right turning just stopped working. I have narrowed it down to the remote having the issue however after opening it up I don’t really know what to do with it. Is this salvageable? Thanks.

Well, it could be that the left/right motor wires came unsoldered or burnt out. You could try to clean the circuit board with rubbing alcohol to make a better connection. Make sure all the wires are intact including the batterie wires. If you feel that there’s something off about the remote and that it isn’t the car, you could try using a tv remote, sometimes its sensors can trigger the car to re-activate and move/turn.

TV remote will not work, RC cars use MHz or GHz frequency, not infrared.

Did you check the motor wires that turn the car, or clean the circuit board? If the battery terminals are corroded you could clean them, and use tinfoil to make a better connection, I also notice that if you leave batteries in remote control cars, sometimes all they need to do is warm up.

If you know the frequency the RC car works on you could get another remote and it should work (assuming the motor still works, you need to test that by connecting a few volts to the motor wires and see if it works). It’s either using MHz or GHz.

Most MHz are 27 or 49. If it is GHz there is a universal remote you can buy that will connect to all of those frequency’s.
