3DS turns on just when the charger is connected
This question is archived. No new answers are allowed, and only the question's owner may edit it.
Hello,
I bought this 3DS on ebay as faulty. It does turn on but just when the charger is connected, otherwise it does not turn on without it. I already tested the battery and one F1 fuse and EM1 inside. I am all confused what could cause this. Any help or suggestion would be appreciated. Please don't answer any non-technical thing, e.g. send it to nintendo and similar to that.

When you say you tested the battery, how did you check it? Do you have power on your contacts when you plug your 3DS in? Your contacts are all okay, no debris or corrosion. Both fuses have continuity?
oldturkey03,
I have the same problem with a 3DS bought on eBay. Has anyone managed to figure this out?
misterkeating,
Hello, Thanks for the reply. I checked the battery on another 3ds and used a new one on this. The contacts are all OK and no sign of corrosion is visible. I am suspicious this 3ds was one of those ones they put in the stores for people to test before they but, cause I saw some pictures taken from different people in a store. I think it was connected all the times to the plug, but still don't know what is nonfunctional inside that causes this problem.
mixmixi,
So when you use a new fully charged battery, will it come on?
oldturkey03,
It does not matter if the battery is fully charged or not, if the charger is not connected it won't turn on. Very strange!
mixmixi,
Do you have access to a multimeter? Can you check the board and see if your traces are okay and check both fuses again, I do believe that one is for the charging circuit...
oldturkey03,
Thanks very much for your help. Yes I do have the multimeter and I checked the board for any sign of liquid damaged but it was perfectly fine. I just was able to find one fuse on the board close to the charging port and near EM1, could you kindly let me know where is the second one please?
mixmixi,
Hi, Excuse my intrusion but I've also have a Store Display 3DS I've purchased off ebay, Has there been any solution you've discovered to solve this issue yet? If it is indeed a problem with the second fuse, will it need to be bridged or replaced? Thanks.
