Why won't my system boot properly?
I hear the boot sound but there's no image on the screen. I tried an smc reset and a pram reset. i tried to connect to an external monitor but the monitor never got a signal.

Try booting from the CD. Insert a install disk and boot holding the "C" key down.
Yes, it might tell us if it has a dead hard drive. I've seen this machine not be able to boot from anything unless it has a good hard drive. Once not even from a CD without a good drive. I put a known good drive with a system in it and it booted right up.
You used to be able to boot the disk without directly using the Open Firmware interface, but that went out with the demise of the Motorola Power PC
Unfortunately my optical drive isn't functional, so i can't try that. I just took the computer to my local genius bar. They told me that it was the logic board that was broken and they're replacing it free of charge. It looks like it was a known issue with these particular logic boards.
That's fantastic. If you can, without hurting yourself, would you find out where they acknowledge it being a know issue so that others can be helped.

Mi macbook pro takes almost 6 minutes to starts... it is faster if I start with windows (30 secs. boot camp)
A blue screen appears after the starting sound and it stays like that
