Apple Cinema Display and USB-C Adapter

Hi All,

I’ve had my HD cinema display for about 10 years now, and absolutely love it. It’s worked great with my 2013 Macbook Pro.

The screen has a DVI connector by default, and I’ve been using it with a DVI > Mini Display Port adaptor, which has worked like a charm.

I since have a new MBP, which has USB-C connectors. I changed out the DVI > Mini Display Port for a DVI > HDMI adaptor, so that I can connect to the Apple 3-in-1 USB-C connector.

The screen now will not display any image when plugged in. The laptop appears to recognise the screen, however the HD display is black.

I’d really appreciate any guidance as to how I can work around this.

Thanks!

There are some USB to DVI connectors that should work, but you need to find one that can handle the resolution of your monitor. Probably an active adaptor is required, and those are more expensive.
