display for mac won't work

I have a G3 but just the tower and i tried hooking up a regular screen to it but it won't recognize it. do I have to have an actual apple screen for it to work? and if not then its probably safe to say the graphics card is screwed?

Any display with the right cable on it should work.

Try removing and reinstalling the graphics card. +

Make sure you monitor is operational on another machine.
