Gray display, everything work fine whith external monitor

History

Hi everyone, i've got a problem whith my macbook pro: the computer itself works fine but the display show only a gray screen (backlight work fine too), and i'm forced to' use an external monitor.

Do i need to repair the whole LCD or just the cable?

Edited by

Was there a history to this failure? Does the screen do anything when moved up and down?

mayer,

well, some time ago I've had problem just with the upper part of the screen, it began to shade colours to white, while the lower part remain "normal". then if i pressed on the side of the screen for a couple of time it returned ok. One day i just switch on the computer and the screen was all gray, and did not show anything also if i tried to press the borders... That'it. Any idea? Thanks a lot for your answere!

Matteo,

hi guys! So, today i've replaced the cable arrived from Ifixit... nothing happened!!! I argue that i'm forced to replace the whole display.... it isn't? Does anyone have got other solutions? Other cables that i may replace before I'll buy another display?

Matteo,

If you're lucky, the LVDS cable (video cable) is only disconnected from the LCD socket or the cable is faulty. That's the first thing you should check by opening the LCD panel.

Thanks for your answer, i've checked the LVSD cable and was connected to the LCD, so hopefully it is faulty. Now i've got another problem: after I've opened the LCD panel the monitor show me a white screen when I start the computer, then a black screen, also while i'm working whith external monitor, and backlight doesn't function anymore... Did I unexpectedly broke the LED Driver Board too? Is the cable you're talking about, LVDS cable, the one show at the following link? MacBook Pro 15" (Models A1226/A1260) Display Data Cable Thanks!

Un-accept the answer so others will look at your question again. When it's turned on, hold a flashlight at an angle to the screen and see if you can see the desktop. If this is the case then the inverter or its cables or connection are not working. Please let us know.
