My speedometer is not working properly on my 04 f150.

At a stop it reads at 60mph, while driving at about 50mph it reads at around 100-120 mph. It was working fine and then it just started doing this. I left it overnight and this morning the needle is still stuck at 60 while parked. Anyone know what is going on?

First, try unplugging the negative battery cable and reset your trucks adaptive memory. Here is a how to article: https://www.ford-trucks.com/how-tos/a/fo...

If resetting the adaptive memory doesn’t work, check the functionality of the odometer. If the odometer is racking up miles during a dead stop, I suspect it would be your speed sensor. This is located on the side of the transmission.

If the odometer is working correctly (i.e. not racking up miles while the truck is stopped), then the problem is most likely the instrument cluster. You can replace the cluster, or try to repair it. If repairing, I’ve heard people have had success replacing a bad stepper motor, but this would require some circuit testing and soldering skills.
