Is it possible to use a Gamecube disc drive on a Wii?

History

This is bound to be really complicated.

My Wii's disc drive exploded because of nintendo's crappy repair service. I have a spare Gamecube lying around. Can sparks happen? I've seen special GC cases that can fit a full DVD in them so I thought it could work (if the laser can go that far?)

nintendo did make them similar...

Short answer: no.

Long answer: They're not compatible, so you can't do that. Also, if Nintendo messed up a repair, get them to fix it again. However, you can always pick a new (used) optical drive up from iFixit, right here

Nintendo will not fixed it because my wii is soft modded and out of warranty. and I can't afford to invest into a dead console, I'm afraid.

try freecycle in your area and ask for a broken wii... you never know, you might get lucky.
