iPhone 3GS Silent switch is not working
Hello,
I have a two years old iphone 3GS. The silent switch on the phone does not work. When I push the switch to silent mode, it goes to silent mode for a second. And as soon as I take my figure of the switch it turns back to ringer mode. I am sure the switch snaps and it clicks when I push it down. It seems like I have to press the switch inside to hold it into silent mode and whenever I take my figure off it I get backs to ringer mode. When I put the phone in my pocket for the slightest of touch is start to toggle between silent and ringer mode. So, basically I have to press the switch inside when it is in silent mode to make it got to silent. I have looked up some of the questions, but I was not sure if I have to replace the head jack or if it is just a connector issue.
Thank you for all your help.

you have 2 choices as you said.. you can either take the phone apart to look at the tiny toggle that turns the phone to silent and see if it is just not sitting in the groove of the outer switch (the bit you have to keep holding down) my guess is that this is the problem or it has worn down with 2 years of use.
you can try a bit of fix with something to make the toggle stay in it's groove or replace the part and know that the problem is solved. depends how much money you want to spend... replacing the jack can be a PITA with the power button but if you play about with the screws that hold the power button in you can make sure it works. let us know how you get on. all the best, jen
So, can I use this manual http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair/Insta... to take my phone apart and check the silent switch. Please let me know I am looking at the correct manual. Thank you for all your time.

Yes thats the correct manual, you don't have to take the power button portion out, actually just taking the screws out in steps 17 and 18 will allow you to slide out the silent switch and you can try to re-set it with out removing any other parts.
