So... does the iPad 2 headphone jack use pogo plugs or not?

History

"Lead designer at Mozilla Labs Kevin Fox has suggested that the iPad 2’s headphone port, which is set on a steep curve, could actually be the first of a new kind of headphone jack from the company. Citing an Apple patent application from September 2010, Fox argues that the port’s slim design suggests that it may be one of the “pogo pin” jacks described in the application. Named after the pogo stick, the jack described in the patent employs retractable Pogo pins to conserve space, and replaces the traditional, larger “cantilever beam” design."

So... assuming since you have access you could tear apart the headphone jack and answer this question.

In a sense it does, but not the same way the patent describes. Really, the size of the plug is limited by the 3.5mm connector, not the connectors. If you want more info, see the headphone jack teardown.
