I have the same Problem, i think it happend in 2018. I connected a non Nikon Brand battery grip and suddenly the display turned black with white lines. It is still possible to use the camera with external monitor.

But maybe meanwhile someone knows which part i have to replace to fix it and wake up camera from Death after Years.

Sounds like the LCD connections are loose. Luckily, there is a service manual that shows how to open it. Nikon_d700.pdf

Open it up, unlock the ZIF locks, clean the connections with a microfiber cloth, put the ZIF back in, flip down the lock, and you should be good to go!

If that doesn't fix it, it must be the logic board or LCD.

Hope this helps!

thank you for your help..on my testing and trouble shooting..the grey lines are changing patterns whenever i push any buttons, and also in live view meaning lcd is running but not representing the actual picture it should be doing.it has something to do with my external battery grip..maybe a voltage fluctuation ruined some parts or affected the lcd screen..
