Hi, If your problem truly is carbon buildup in the manifold be prepared to spend around $300 to fix it. It requires a special machine that only dealerships and high end repair shops can afford. I would check with your dealer and see what he wants to charge for the procedure and then shop around for a better deal. Good luck. Ralph

Or, you could remove the manifold (five nuts) and clean the thing yourself with a little carb cleaner for approximately $0. It's easy, except the hose connections in the back are a little hard to reach.

Also, while you're in there, clean your IACM and consider (if car approaching 200k miles) replacing the TPS. Otherwise you'll be removing the manifold again soon. Ask me how I know ;-P

How Do you know?

My 98 accord 4cyl doesn't go over 20 mph and has no throttle after doing this cleaning

by

It's because you messed with your throttle position

when you replaced the egr valve make sure you clean out the passages that the gasses have to travel through. They can get clogged up. Throttle plate cleaner helps.

For a 4cyl 1996 accord, their is a good overview here.

P401 Engine code on an Accord

and on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8N-SE047...

Unfortunately it turns out for a 1998 accord, they redesigned the system. Luckily it looks like the answered it here: How to clean out the EGR system in a 1998 accord

The image above has the port that must be cleaned out circled. Looks like you take off the intake, and use some carb cleaner to clean out the port.
