Dont waste your time on a new LCD, it wont help. The 6R8 backlight coil is the problem, try disassembling using the guide on here, then on the logic board look for a round looking chip that has 6R8 on it. Clean it(and the entire logic board where ever you see corrosion) really good with a soft toothbrush, distilled water, and dish soap. Let dry for a few days, I usually wait 3 to make sure all the water is gone. Reassemble, if it still isn't working you'll need a new one - requires soldering but can be replaced.

It may just be the connection between the screen and the board. My son left his outside, in the rain, while we were on vacation. I tried rice and baking it at 220 F, but that didn't work. I took it apart and put it back together and it worked.
