Starter and more 92 Sierra 1500 rwd

Need to replace starter. How easy outs that? Is it necessary for a mechanic or easy enough for a dyi job? Also when i tried to crank it, behind the dash under the hood on the passenger side it smoked a little. What could that be?

first off the starter is an easy fix 2 to 3 bolts usually hold it on and some wires on the solenoid . The smoke was probably from the wiring on the starter overheating . So with this in mind before replacing the starter check the connections at the starter. there may be a bad contact causing the problem or just the starter solenoid on the starter . Try by passing the solenoid t o see if that's the problem. Hope this helps

Mahara, 1992 Sierra 1500 starter replacement not a bad job to do a little tight. Link below will show what is involved in replacing starter. As far as the smoke you saw, may have been starting circuit wires that overheated from bad starter, remove wrapping on wire bundle and check wires for burnt/damage and make necessary repairs.Good luck.

I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.
